Meet the main Cast

Meet phenomenal actress Khai A. Tyler who plays Aisha Johnson in “Memoirs of a Black Girl”. This is her first lead role in a feature film. She was recently awarded best actress for her role of Aisha at the Hamilton Black Film Festival. Khai is a Boston-born actress of Caribbean and African American descent. She is a recent college graduate with a theater degree from Ithaca College. Since filming “Memoirs of a Black Girl”, Khai has starred in several national commercials and print ads. She hopes to continue working in film and television, and is also working on writing her own screenplays. 

Meet Nicholas Walker, a New Orleans native who is a theater arts graduate from Boston University. Nicholas plays the role of Marcus in Memoirs of a Black Girl. After graduating from Boston University, Nick moved back to New Orleans to continue  working as a theater maker and a teacher. 

Meet Carolina Soto, a Dominican-American actress who plays Marisa in Memoirs of a Black Girl. This is her first feature film but she’s been acting on stage since the 7th grade. She is currently a A transfer student studying film and video with a minor in creative writing at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Carolina has always had a passion for the entertainment industry and the power of good storytelling. She is looking forward to a career in acting, writing, and directing for film, television, and stage.

Alexandra discovered her love for acting as a child. She attended Boston Arts Academy where she developed her performance skills. Alexandra has starred in the AMC series Kevin Can F... Himself, and numerous short films. She made her feature film debut as Shakia in Memoirs of a Black Girl.

Haitain-American Juliette plays the role of Rudy. Juliette was raised in the Brookline area. She has played in various independent theatre productions around the Boston area. Memoirs of a Black Girl is Juliette’s first feature film. 

 Meet Taylor Phillips who plays the role of Tonya in Memoirs of a Black Girl. This is Taylor’s first role as an actress and she is already rocking it. Taylor knows how to get into character. She brings positive energy to the set.

Juvan has been booked and busy since he’s last worked on ‘Memoirs of a Black Girl’. You can see him in a commercial for Tic Tac, on Disney+ playing a security guard in the film ‘Godmothered’ and he recently did a photo shoot for Nike’s new shoe collection ‘Peace, Love, Swoosh’, you can spot him in a few ads. He’s been hard at work auditioning for Films/TV and has more unreleased projects coming out in the following year.

Meet Alexia Etienne​ who plays the part of Evelyn, the mother of Aisha in “Memoirs of a Black Girl.”  Her acting career started in her home country of Dominica, where she participated in community theatre.  Her first film acting role was in a BBC TV series, “The Orchid House,” filmed in Dominica.  In the United States, Evelyn is a full-time teacher and a part-time theater director. Despite her active roles, she has made time for the stage. Most recently, she performed in the Ghost of Christmas Past at the Canton Community Theater in Canton, MA.  Her passion for acting has pushed her to sharpen her craft through training in Massachusetts, New York, and California.

Meet Kim Tavares who plays Ms. Jones in Memoirs of a Black Girl. This is Kim’s first lead role in a feature film. She has acted in short films and some commercials. Kim has done some background work on several television shows and movies. She is a singer/songwriter and has been a Boston Police Officer for 18 years.  Kim said “It was fun playing Ms.Jones. I immediately connected with her character. She’s a little stern, but very understanding, caring and loving towards her students.”
